Hyderabad: BRS Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath passed away in the early hours of Sunday at AIG Hospital, following a cardiac arrest he suffered on Thursday. He was 58. According to hospital sources, he had been on ventilator support for three days and breathed his last at 5 AM on Sunday.
Gopinath was a three-time MLA, winning from Jubilee Hills constituency in 2014, 2018, and 2023. He began his political career with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1983 and held key roles including State President of Telugu Yuvata from 1985 to 1992 and Director of HUDCO in 1987–88.
He made his legislative debut in 2014 as a TDP candidate. Later, in 2018, he switched to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (then TRS) and retained his seat in the subsequent two Assembly elections. Gopinath also served as the BRS Hyderabad district president. Prior to entering politics, he was associated with the Telugu film industry as a producer.
