Hyderabad: A Rajya Sabha seat from Andhra Pradesh has become vacant following the resignation of Vijay Sai Reddy, prompting intense speculation about potential candidates. Given the current political dynamics, it is expected that the seat will be filled by a candidate from the ruling coalition. Discussions are ongoing regarding who might secure this opportunity, with parties such as TDP, Jana Sena, and the ruling alliance all in the mix.

Recent reports suggest that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to be allocated the seat. Among the potential nominees, actor Chiranjeevi and former Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy are emerging as frontrunners. If Chiranjeevi is selected, it is anticipated that Jana Sena will strongly support his nomination, aligning with BJP’s strategy. Chiranjeevi has been building a relationship with BJP since the last elections, having publicly supported BJP candidates like Anakapalli MP candidate CM Ramesh and Secunderabad candidate Kishan Reddy. His appearance as the chief guest at a Sankranti celebration at Kishan Reddy’s residence further strengthened these ties.
Meanwhile, former CM Kiran Kumar Reddy is also reportedly seeking the Rajya Sabha seat, following his defeat in the 2019 elections. Despite his loss in Rajampet, there were discussions that he might have been appointed a central minister if he had won. With the goal of bolstering party strength in Andhra Pradesh, some political observers speculate that Reddy may be nominated for the Rajya Sabha seat.
