New Delhi: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has urged Indian youth to travel more extensively, particularly to regions inhabited by the underprivileged, to better understand real-world challenges and help drive meaningful change.
Speaking in a recent podcast, Gates responded to a question on why India is emerging as a global talent hub. “Indians are remarkably talented and solve problems with ease. Their innovative capabilities are evident in various sectors. India is also making rapid strides in the digital space — initiatives like Aadhaar are a prime example,” he said.

Gates emphasized the importance of youth engaging with grassroots realities. “Young Indians should visit areas where the poor live. You’ll find exceptionally intelligent people there, but they lack opportunities, access to quality education, and proper healthcare. These issues must be recognized and addressed,” he noted.
The tech pioneer also spoke about his personal wealth during the podcast, revealing that he intends to leave less than one percent of his fortune to his children. He stated that his children are capable of building their own careers and should not rely on inherited wealth.
Gates’ remarks reflect his continued focus on philanthropy, equitable access, and youth-driven change — areas in which he believes India’s young population can play a crucial role.
