Patna: With Assembly elections in Bihar scheduled for later this year, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has made a significant pre-poll announcement, promising 35% reservation for women in all government jobs. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held in Patna and is aimed at increasing women’s representation in the state’s public sector.

According to the Chief Minister, the reservation will be applicable across all categories of government posts but only for women who are permanent residents of Bihar. Kumar stated that the move is part of the government’s broader agenda to promote gender equality and empower women economically.

In a separate development, Kumar also announced the formation of a Bihar Youth Commission. The commission will be tasked with facilitating employment opportunities, providing skill development training, and coordinating with various departments to improve education and livelihood prospects for the youth.

Meanwhile, political activity is gaining momentum ahead of the elections, expected to take place in October or November. Both the ruling NDA and the opposition Mahagathbandhan are actively strategising and holding internal discussions. The Mahagathbandhan has conducted multiple rounds of meetings on seat-sharing, with several parties demanding a larger share. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has asked alliance partners to submit their preferred list of constituencies, as the contest for control of Bihar intensifies.
