Bihar is set to go to the polls for its Assembly elections, and both ruling and opposition parties have already launched their campaigns. A tough contest is expected between the NDA alliance and the Mahagathbandhan coalition.
In this context, the ruling NDA has finalized its seat-sharing arrangement. The BJP will contest 101 seats, while JD(U) will also field candidates in 101 constituencies. The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), led by Union Minister Chirag Paswan, will contest 29 seats. An additional six seats have been allocated to the Hindusthani Awam Morcha and Rashtriya Lok Morcha. Bihar has a total of 243 Assembly seats. The elections are scheduled for November 6 and 11, with vote counting on November 14. In the 2020 elections, the BJP contested 110 seats and JD(U) contested 11, but this time both parties are sharing seats equally.
In the previous Assembly elections, the LJP contested 22 seats on its own; this time it will contest 29. On the opposition side, the Mahagathbandhan coalition has not yet finalized its seat-sharing, and discussions are ongoing. Reports suggest that the RJD intends to contest between 135 and 140 seats, while the Congress is seeking 70 seats, though it may end up with around 50–52 seats.
