Ayodhya city made history during the ninth annual Deepotsav celebrations, organized under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Over 26 lakh (26,11,101) earthen lamps were lit along the Sarayu river ghats and the Ram Ki Paidi area, setting a new Guinness World Record and surpassing last year’s record of 25 lakh diyas. Videos of the illuminated city quickly went viral on social media, showcasing the grandeur of the festival.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally inaugurated the celebrations by performing a grand aarti at Sarayu Mata. More than 33,000 volunteers from Avadh University assisted in lighting diyas across 56 ghats and key locations throughout the city, contributing to the massive scale of the event. The festival commemorated Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after his exile, reflecting the grandeur of the Treta Yuga.

Ayodhya was lit with spiritual splendor, complemented by cultural performances, drone shows, laser displays, and musical dance programs that captivated visitors. Authorities emphasized that the Deepotsav celebrations were not only a display of devotion but also a showcase of India’s rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described Deepotsav as a symbol of Indian culture, heritage, and faith. He reiterated his vision of developing Ayodhya into a global spiritual tourism hub. Officials praised the dedication of volunteers and the support of local residents, noting that the record-setting event further enhanced Ayodhya’s international reputation.
