Guwahati: Renowned Assamese singer Gayatri Hazarika, aged 44, passed away on Friday afternoon in Guwahati after a prolonged battle with cancer. Her untimely demise has been mourned as a significant loss to the music fraternity.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences, describing her death as an irreplaceable loss to the cultural and musical landscape of the region. Numerous film and cultural personalities, along with fans, conveyed their grief and paid tribute to the late singer.

Gayatri Hazarika gained widespread acclaim for her soulful performances of songs including Sara Pate Pate Phagun Name, Jonak Nashil Banat, Abelir Henguli Akashe, Yetia Jonak Namisil, Matho Ejok Barashun, and Thomlai Mor Maram. Known for her melodious voice, she significantly contributed to preserving and enriching Assam’s cultural heritage.
