Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh: In a major move to combat the circulation of fake alcohol, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced the launch of a mobile application that will help identify fake liquor bottles. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu revealed that the app will allow users to scan the hologram on liquor bottles to determine whether the product is genuine or counterfeit. The announcement came after a review meeting with excise officials, underscoring the state government’s commitment to tackling illegal liquor trade.
The new initiative aims to empower both authorities and the public in preventing the sale and consumption of spurious alcohol, which has been linked to numerous health hazards and fatalities. By providing an easy and reliable method to verify authenticity, the app is expected to significantly curb the distribution of fake liquor across the state. Officials said the tool will be made widely accessible once fully developed.
Meanwhile, in a related crackdown, the police arrested Janardhan, who was identified as A1 in Andhra Pradesh’s counterfeit alcohol cases. He was produced before a magistrate today, and his remand has been extended until October 17, after which he will be transferred to Nellore Jail. The state government has emphasized that such strict enforcement measures, combined with technological tools, are critical to curbing the growing menace of spurious liquor.
