Washington: The recent launch of a new AI tool by US-based startup Anthropic triggered concerns across the global tech sector, prompting sharp declines in software, legal tech, and financial services stocks, wiping out nearly $285 billion in market value in a single trading session.

Responding for the first time, Google CEO Sundar Pichai dismissed fears surrounding artificial intelligence, describing AI as a supporting technology similar to Google Search or YouTube. He said companies should view AI as an opportunity to enhance productivity rather than a disruptive threat.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang echoed the sentiment, stating that AI would strengthen existing software tools instead of replacing them. He added that employees can use AI to handle complex tasks more efficiently, helping teams meet targets faster.

Anthropic recently unveiled its Claude Opus 4.6 model, under which 16 AI agents reportedly collaborated to build a 100,000-line C compiler in just two days. A C compiler converts programming source code into machine-readable instructions, a process considered highly complex by experts. The development is being seen as a major milestone in AI capabilities.
