Actor Vijay’s nomination process for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections has become a subject of controversy, as discrepancies have emerged in the affidavits he filed for two constituencies—Perambur and Tiruchi East. Rival parties have raised questions over the inconsistencies, calling into question the credibility of the submissions.
In terms of asset declarations, Vijay listed his total assets as ₹404 crore in the Perambur nomination affidavit filed on March 30. However, a supplementary affidavit submitted on April 4 revised this figure to ₹410 crore, marking a difference of ₹6 crore in just five days. Moreover, the valuation of his immovable assets differed significantly, with ₹115 crore declared in Perambur and ₹220 crore in Tiruchi East. These variations have sparked public debate over the accuracy of his disclosures.
Personal details in the affidavits also contained inconsistencies. Vijay’s age was listed as 52 in the Perambur affidavit but 51 in Tiruchi East. Additionally, while he claimed no criminal cases against him in Perambur, the Tiruchi East submission mentioned two cases—one dating back to 2025 in Madurai and a recent one filed during the election campaign for code violations.
Following the exposure of these discrepancies, Vijay filed a supplementary affidavit in Perambur on Saturday to correct the errors. He explained that he was unaware of the old cases, which is why they were not included initially. The move is seen as an attempt to clarify the record before election authorities take a decision on the nominations.
Opposition parties, including DMK, have questioned how a star actor and party leader could submit such crucial affidavits with multiple errors. They allege that information may have been deliberately withheld and are urging the election commission to examine the matter closely. The controversy has now become a focal point of discussion across Tamil Nadu as authorities deliberate on the validity of the nominations.
