Kannada actor Darshan is currently serving his sentence in connection with the high-profile Renuka Swami murder case at Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bengaluru. During a recent video conference appearance before the City Civil and Sessions Court, Darshan expressed extreme distress over prison conditions. He complained of inadequate facilities, poor ventilation, foul odors, and fungal growth in his cell, claiming he had not seen sunlight for days. He even requested that he be administered poison, describing life in jail as unbearable.
The Supreme Court delivered a major setback to Darshan by cancelling the bail granted by the Karnataka High Court in December 2024. The apex court ruled there were no legal grounds for bail and instructed that Darshan be taken into custody immediately. It emphasized that no one is above the law and clarified that he does not require any special treatment in jail. Authorities were warned that granting privileges to inmates in violation of rules would result in strict action.
Darshan, along with actress Pavitra Goud, is accused of kidnapping Renuka Swami, a fan, after allegedly sending her obscene messages. Swami was subjected to brutal violence and murdered, with nearly 17 others named as co-accused in the case. The Supreme Court highlighted the gravity of the matter, noting that granting bail could influence witnesses, and upheld the decision to revoke his High Court bail. The case had previously caused widespread shock across the Kannada film industry.
