The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has introduced an online ticketing system in city buses, aligning with the growing preference for digital transactions. With UPI payments becoming an essential part of daily life, the state government has implemented QR code-based ticketing, allowing passengers to pay for tickets seamlessly through UPI transactions.

This initiative eliminates the need for cash transactions, resolving issues related to change between conductors and passengers. The Automatic Fare Collection System has been integrated into city buses as part of this digital transformation. TGSRTC has also announced plans to roll out additional online services in the near future.

The Telangana Congress government’s Mahalakshmi Scheme, which provides free travel for women in RTC buses, has led to a significant rise in passenger numbers. This initiative was among the six key guarantees promised by the Congress party ahead of the Assembly elections.

On December 8, 2023, the state government issued orders allowing free travel for women in Palle Velugu and Express buses, with the government covering the fare expenses. In response to the increased demand, the government is working on expanding its fleet by introducing additional buses.
