Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made a series of bold statements regarding the ongoing caste enumeration survey during a PowerPoint presentation on caste categorization and SC classifications at the Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad.
In his address, Reddy remarked, “I have no issue if I am the last Reddy to become Chief Minister.” He explained that he took on the responsibilities of the CM’s office to fulfill the commitments made by his leader, not for personal or political gain. Reddy stressed that the caste survey was not conducted for his benefit or tenure, but to ensure justice for marginalized communities.

The CM also defended the caste enumeration process, countering allegations that it was flawed. He emphasized that if the caste survey were undermined, it would cause lasting harm to the backward classes (BCs). “Rahul Gandhi has called for a nationwide caste survey in Parliament, and the Prime Minister has joined forces with KCR to prevent it,” Revanth Reddy stated, accusing both leaders of conspiring against the survey.
In a significant assertion, Reddy pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was not born into a BC caste, had added his community to the BC list after becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He criticized Modi for using a legal certificate to claim BC status, asserting that his personal identity remained that of an upper-caste individual.
He also urged BC communities to actively participate in the ongoing caste enumeration, warning that those who abstain would face social exclusion. He concluded by highlighting the importance of the second phase of the survey, noting that official data from the survey could lead to an increase in BC reservations, as per a potential ruling from the Supreme Court.
