On November 11, a meeting was held near Lagacherla by the collector and other officials to discuss land acquisition for the establishment of pharma companies. During the meeting, a group of farmers approached the collector, requesting discussions with the villagers. However, when the collector and officials entered the village, they were suddenly attacked by a group of individuals. Their vehicles were damaged with large stones, escalating the situation.
In response to the attack, the Telangana government took immediate action. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for Parigi, Karunasagar Reddy, was transferred and attached to the DGP office. Additionally, the main accused in the incident, identified as Suresh, was arrested. He surrendered to the police and was presented before the Kodangal Magistrate. Suresh, who was accused of inciting the villagers and intentionally leading the officials into the village, had been absconding since the incident.
In a further development, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo-motu cognizance of the case and registered a formal inquiry. The NHRC has issued notices to Telangana’s Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP), requesting a report on the matter within two weeks.
