Hyderabad: The Telangana government has issued a legal notice to Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh, ahead of his scheduled “Dil Luminati” concert in Hyderabad on Friday, urging him to avoid promoting objectionable content in his songs. The notice specifically cautions Dosanjh against endorsing drug and alcohol culture during the performance.

Concerns Raised Over Violent and Controversial Content

The move follows a recent complaint filed by Professor Pandit Rao Dharanavara from Chandigarh, who alleged that certain tracks performed by the singer at live concerts incite violence. The professor has requested authorities to take action and prevent such songs from being included in Dosanjh’s future live performances. As a result, the Telangana government has intensified its scrutiny of the concert. The Rangareddy District Welfare Officer was provided with evidence, including video footage from a concert held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on the 26th and 27th of the previous month, which the complainant cited as proof of the alleged harmful content.

Warning on Noise Levels and Child Safety

In its legal notice, the Telangana government issued additional guidelines for the concert, advising against allowing children on stage. It referenced World Health Organization standards, stating that noise levels should not exceed 140 decibels for adults and 120 decibels for children. The notice further emphasized that children under 13 years should not be permitted to attend the concert due to the potential harm caused by loud sounds and flashing lights.

Gun Culture Controversy Surrounding Punjabi Singers

Punjabi singers, including Dosanjh, have faced ongoing criticism for promoting gun culture in their music. Following the 2020 murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala, controversy erupted over a song titled “Sanju,” which referenced legal cases under weapons laws. In 2022, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also warned artists against glorifying violence and drug use in their songs.

With over 20,000 expected attendees at the concert, city traffic police have been put on high alert.
