Hyderabad: In a significant development in Telangana’s high-profile phone-tapping case, authorities have revoked the passports of former SIB OSDs Prabhakar Rao and Shravan Rao, the primary suspects in the investigation. Reports indicate that both are believed to be residing in the United States, prompting police to formally request the passport office to cancel their travel documents. The suspects have already been issued lookout notices.
This case, which first surfaced during the previous BRS government, involves alleged phone-tapping of opposition leaders, current and former ministers, and other officials. The new Congress government ordered a fresh inquiry, which sources suggest has progressed to an advanced stage.
Speculation on Suspects’ Surrender Quelled by Police
Recent rumors suggested that Prabhakar Rao might have returned to Hyderabad to surrender, potentially leading to further arrests. However, Hyderabad police quickly dispelled these claims, confirming that he has not returned to the city. Speculation has also mounted regarding potential arrests as the probe advances.
The investigation has simultaneously broadened to include discussions surrounding the Kaleshwaram project and power purchases under scrutiny. Additionally, the Congress-led administration has raised concerns about alleged irregularities in a Formula Racing event conducted under the previous BRS government. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is expected to launch an inquiry into these claims as well.
Adding to the political intrigue, KTR recently addressed supporters in Adilabad, stating his willingness to face jail time, a comment widely interpreted as a response to remarks from Ponguleti. This statement has since fueled further discussions and heightened public interest in the ongoing case and related political tensions in the state.
