Panuganti Chaitanya, president of the YCP student wing and primary accused in the 2021 attack on the TDP Central Office in Mangalagiri, has surrendered in court, placing him officially as Accused No.1 in the case. Following his surrender, Chaitanya was placed in Guntur District Jail.
Court Approves 3-Day CID Custody for Interrogation
To investigate the alleged mastermind behind the attack, CID officials petitioned for Chaitanya’s custody. After reviewing the petition, the Mangalagiri court granted a 3-day custody, allowing CID officers to interrogate him from Friday at 11:00 a.m. until Monday at 11:00 a.m. per court orders, with the interrogation conducted within view of Chaitanya’s legal representatives. A medical examination was completed at Guntur Government Hospital prior to transferring him to the CID regional office.
Background of Accused and Case Details
Chaitanya, known as a close associate of MLC Lella Appi Reddy, is actively involved in political activities within Guntur, frequently participating in events led by Reddy. He led nearly 200 individuals in the 2021 attack on the TDP Central Office, causing significant property damage.
With the recent change in state governance, the CID has taken possession of all files related to the case as part of its investigation.
