Former Film Chamber President and MD of Poorna Pictures, Grandhi Viswanath, met with Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to request the implementation of a flexible ticket pricing system for films. He explained to Pawan Kalyan that such a system would benefit the film industry, particularly in the face of challenges posed by OTT platforms and ticket pricing. During their meeting on Tuesday, Viswanath emphasized the need for flexibility in ticket prices, noting that other states have already adopted this approach. He urged Pawan Kalyan to consider this model, which could be helpful for the Telugu film industry. Viswanath also presented Pawan Kalyan with a souvenir marking 100 years of Poorna Pictures during the meeting.
High Ticket Prices Driving Away Poor Audiences
Speaking on the issue, Grandhi Viswanath expressed concerns that high cinema ticket prices, in addition to the rise of OTT platforms, are alienating poorer audiences from theaters. He suggested that introducing a flexible pricing policy could revitalize the film industry, noting that states like Telangana, Maharashtra, and Karnataka already have such systems in place. By establishing minimum and maximum price ranges, ticket prices could be adjusted based on the film’s scale, which would particularly benefit smaller films and encourage more people to visit theaters.
After hearing these suggestions, Pawan Kalyan responded positively and assured Viswanath that he would bring the matter to the attention of the Chief Minister.
