Former Delhi University professor Dr. GN Saibaba (58) passed away on Saturday while undergoing treatment at NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad. Following his wish, his family will donate his body to Gandhi Medical College. His body, currently at the NIMS mortuary, will be taken out on Monday, October 14, at 8 a.m.
From there, his body will be brought to Gun Park by 9 a.m., where it will remain for about 15 minutes. It will then be taken to his residence, Srinivasa Heights near Moula Ali Kamaan, for public viewing until 2 p.m. Following this, the final procession will depart at 2:30 p.m., and his body will be handed over to Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad by 4 p.m.
In 2014, Dr. Saibaba was arrested on charges of having links with Maoists. In 2017, the Gadchiroli Sessions Court sentenced him to life imprisonment, leading to his confinement in Nagpur Jail for 10 years. However, on March 5 of this year, the Bombay High Court acquitted him, resulting in his release. Dr. Saibaba was known as a human rights activist, writer, and educator.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his condolences, stating that Saibaba’s death is a great loss to the civil rights movement. He praised Saibaba for raising his voice against injustices faced by marginalized communities and fighting tirelessly despite threats to his freedom and health. BRS Working President KTR also expressed his sorrow, calling Saibaba’s untimely death a significant loss to the people’s movements in the country and extended his condolences to his family and followers.
