Hydra intensifies demolition drive in Hyderabad

Hydra officials have ramped up their demolition operations in Hyderabad. After a brief pause due to last week’s heavy rains, the authorities have resumed clearing illegal constructions. Currently, they are focusing on the illegal structures built on the Katwa Lake within the Dundigal municipal limits. As part of this operation, eight villas constructed on the lake’s land have been demolished, and notices have been issued to another 12 villas.

Villas Built on 15 Acres of Lake Land

Following complaints from local residents about encroachments on the Katwa Lake, Hydra initiated action. It was discovered that Lakshmi Srinivas Constructions had undertaken a project to build 330 villas, of which several were constructed on approximately 15 acres of the lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone. As a result, Hydra immediately demolished eight villas.

However, the owners of these villas have expressed their frustration and anger over the demolitions, claiming that they were not given any prior notice. They questioned how the demolitions could be carried out without warning, insisting that their villas were built with all necessary permissions. The villa owners are demanding not only accountability for the officials who granted the permits but also compensation for their losses, stating that merely filing cases against the responsible authorities is insufficient.
