Hyderabad: The Hydra task force, established to safeguard ponds and water bodies in Hyderabad, has stepped up its enforcement against illegal constructions, prompting action from several high-profile individuals. Among those impacted are prominent political leaders who are now preemptively dismantling unauthorized structures near the city’s reservoirs.

Villas, farmhouses, and large sheds constructed within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of Himayat Sagar and Usman Sagar reservoirs are being voluntarily removed by their owners. In a notable incident early Saturday, a senior BRS leader and former minister demolished a large shed on his property with the help of his supporters, ahead of any official action by Hydra.

According to Hydra and revenue officials, the shed was identified as being within the buffer zone, in violation of zoning regulations. Reports suggest the former minister acted swiftly after receiving information that Hydra was planning to target the illegal structure.

Similarly, a senior leader from Andhra Pradesh demolished unauthorized buildings he had constructed under the former 111 GO provisions a week ago. The heightened enforcement by Hydra has triggered compliance measures, as political figures move quickly to avoid legal penalties.

Hydra’s continued focus on illegal encroachments has intensified efforts to preserve Hyderabad’s water bodies, sending a strong message across various sectors.
