Vijayawada: The Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada is on the brink of a major crisis due to the ongoing heavy rains and subsequent flooding. The barrage, which has become completely inundated, has sustained damage after boats collided forcefully with its gates.
Irrigation expert Kannayya Naidu promptly visited the site to assess the damage. He announced that repair work on the gates will begin on Tuesday and is expected to be completed within 15 days. Nimmala Ramanaidu, the Irrigation Minister, also conducted a site visit to evaluate the situation.
Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu stated, “We have inspected the damaged gates and will be working with experts to carry out the repairs. The gates have suffered significant damage. An inquiry will be launched to investigate any potential conspiracy behind the incident. We will take stringent action if any involvement of YSRC leaders is found. Politicizing a project like the Prakasam Barrage is unacceptable. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has given clear instructions, and with the assistance of irrigation expert Kannayya Naidu, we will ensure the repairs are completed swiftly.”
