Hyderabad: The Congress party has won another Rajya Sabha seat from Telangana as Abhishek Manu Singhvi was elected unopposed in a recent by-election. The election followed the resignation of K Keshava Rao. Singhvi’s unopposed election was confirmed by the returning officer after no other nominations were filed. He will serve a two-year term in the Rajya Sabha.

Singhvi had earlier contested a Rajya Sabha seat from Himachal Pradesh in February this year but was unsuccessful. The Telangana seat became vacant after K Keshava Rao, who had switched from the BRS to the Congress, resigned from his Rajya Sabha membership. Given the Congress’s strong position in Telangana, the party leadership decided to nominate Singhvi, expecting a straightforward win.

The vacancy had attracted significant interest from several senior Congress leaders, particularly those who had been overlooked in the last assembly and parliamentary elections. Many of these leaders lobbied Telangana Congress President Revanth Reddy and the party high command for the nomination. However, the party’s top leadership ultimately selected Abhishek Manu Singhvi as the candidate, a decision that surprised many within the party ranks.
