In the ongoing investigation of the Kolkata rape and murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted raids at the residence of former RG Kar Medical College Principal Sandeep Ghosh. On August 25, the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch executed searches at 16 locations, including Ghosh’s home and other related premises in Kolkata. The raids also extended to the residence of Dr. Debashis Som, a forensic medicine and toxicology demonstrator at the medical college.

Earlier, Akhtar Ali, the former superintendent of the college, was accused of corruption and irregularities, leading to a complaint filed three days ago. It has been revealed that Ali is also known as Dr. Debashis Som.

FIR Registered Against Sandeep Ghosh

On August 24, the CBI registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Sandeep Ghosh, accusing him of financial misconduct during his tenure at the medical college. The West Bengal government initially assigned the investigation to a Special Investigation Team (SIT). However, the Kolkata High Court directed the CBI to handle the case instead.

In related developments, the polygraph test for Sanjay Roy, the main suspect in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor, was postponed due to technical issues. The test was scheduled for August 24 but has been rescheduled. Sanjay Roy is currently in Presidency Jail, and the CBI is planning to conduct the lie detector test soon. Meanwhile, former Principal Ghosh, four other doctors, and one volunteer underwent their polygraph tests on August 24 at the CBI office in Delhi, conducted by a central forensic team.

CBI officials noted that Sandeep Ghosh’s consent for the polygraph test was straightforward, as he, being a doctor, was familiar with the procedure. The CBI aims to cross-check Ghosh’s statements. The case involves the rape and murder of a trainee doctor on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, where her semi-nude body was found in a seminar room on the third floor. The CBI has also interrogated 15 individuals, including ten police officers and civilian volunteers, in connection with the case.
