Nalgonda: Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) has come under scrutiny once again following the collapse of the compound wall at the Sunkishala project in Nagarjuna Sagar, Nalgonda district. The incident, attributed to the negligence of both the contractor and engineers, has raised serious safety concerns. Over 300 migrant workers are employed at the site, and had the accident occurred during their working hours, it could have resulted in significant loss of life.

MEIL secured the Sunkishala project contract for Rs 2,215 crore, with the retaining wall being constructed to prevent water from entering the tunnels. Following the collapse, the Sunkishala pump house was submerged in water, exacerbating the situation.

Criticism over the quality of work on the Sunkishala project has surfaced in the past, with allegations that substandard materials and methods were used to maximize commissions. The project commenced two years ago under the BRS regime. Notably, the retaining wall collapse occurred on August 1, but MEIL reportedly kept the incident under wraps for a week before it became public knowledge.
