AP Congress chief YS Sharmila attended the 75th birth anniversary celebrations of YS Rajasekhar Reddy (YSR) in Mangalagiri. During her address, she expressed gratitude to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for sending a message in honor of YSR’s Jayanti.
“When I hear YSR’s name, I remember his smile and majestic presence,” Sharmila said. She recalled how her father, YSR, emphasized the importance of doing something for the people who supported them. “Jalayagnam was my father’s favorite program,” she added.
Sharmila pointed out that, unlike some leaders who become distant from the people after gaining power, YS Rajasekhar Reddy introduced numerous schemes that endeared him to the public. “YSR believed that only the Congress party could bring prosperity to the state and the country,” she said.
She criticized those who have formed behind-the-scenes alliances with the BJP, questioning how they could claim to be YSR’s true descendants. “It was YSR’s wish to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister,” Sharmila stated. She mentioned that Rahul Gandhi had credited YSR’s padayatra as the inspiration for his Bharat Jodo Yatra and emphasized that it is everyone’s responsibility to fulfill YSR’s last wish.
