Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Deepke has announced that the party will stage a tricolour demonstration at Central Park in Connaught Place, Delhi, on October 16, in protest against the arrest of the party’s co-convenors, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. Deepke has called on citizens across the country to gather at the venue carrying national flags.
In a video message posted on social media platform X, Deepke stated that the demonstration has been named “Lehrao Do Tiranga.” He alleged that Das and Ranka had been sent to jail solely for displaying the national tricolour. He urged supporters to assemble at Central Park at 5 pm on October 16 with national flags, asserting that the demonstration was intended to convey the message that hoisting the tricolour does not constitute a criminal act.
Deepke further appealed to those unable to travel to Delhi to organize similar tiranga marches in their respective localities, stating that the national flag was a matter of pride and that its display should never be treated as an offence. He acknowledged the possibility of his own arrest following the protest but said he remained undeterred, adding that he would continue to display the tricolour under all circumstances.
In a related development, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were remanded to five days of judicial custody on Wednesday in connection with a case involving unauthorized entry into Jantar Mantar. Another CJP leader, Ajinkya Shinde, was released on personal bond in the same case.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Das has been lodged in Jail No. 2 and Ranka in Jail No. 4 at Tihar Jail. Three CJP members were taken into preventive custody for trespassing into Jantar Mantar, with the action reportedly taken after the site was removed from the official list of locations designated for protests.
