The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a significant step in the death case of Disha Salian, former manager of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, by registering an FIR in connection with the matter. The FIR names Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MLA Aditya Thackeray, along with actors Dino Morea, Rhea Chakraborty, Suraj Pancholi, and others. The development comes nearly two weeks after the Bombay High Court ordered a CBI investigation into Disha Salian’s death. Officials said the case has been registered under sections relating to murder, gang rape, criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence, and furnishing false information.
The FIR states that former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, his son Aditya Thackeray, and several other individuals are alleged to have played key roles both in the conspiracy and in the subsequent cover-up. The CBI said the role of concerned government officials and police personnel also needs to be investigated, and that a probe is required into the alleged destruction or concealment of documents, files, and official records, the fabrication of false records, and the alleged misuse of government funds, personnel, and the police machinery.
The FIR further states that, alongside Aditya Thackeray, Dino Morea, Suraj Pancholi, and Rhea Chakraborty, the role of the doctors and staff who conducted a delayed post-mortem also warrants examination. Officials cautioned that the mere inclusion of names in the FIR does not amount to proof of guilt, and that the facts will have to be established through investigation.
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area. Days later, actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his residence in Bandra. Mumbai Police had initially registered an Accidental Death Report in Disha’s case, and subsequent investigation led police to classify it as suicide. However, her father, Satish Salian, moved the Bombay High Court alleging that his daughter had been gang-raped and murdered — allegations he raised in a petition filed last year.
