Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s foreign visit was recently cancelled, triggering intense political controversy. Responding at a media briefing held at the Secretariat, Revanth Reddy stated that while the External Affairs Ministry had approved his London leg of the trip, it denied permission for the US visit and cancelled it. He reacted sharply, alleging that Prime Minister Modi had conspired against him, and stated that his government had drawn up a firm action plan focused on foreign education, sports, and industrial investment to accelerate Telangana’s development. He clarified that complete details of the official visit had been shared with the Ministry, and that all activities would have taken place under the supervision of the Indian embassy, criticizing the fact that permission was granted for England but denied for the US on political grounds.

Revanth Reddy further alleged that, beyond rejecting the visit, BJP leaders had made false statements about the government and the trip while leveling personal allegations against him. He said this was an official matter between two governments and that he did not wish to bring politics into it, demanding that PM Modi clarify exactly what “political reasons” were cited for denying the visit.
He pointed out that the Centre had granted permission for Gujarat’s Chief Minister to travel to the US and Canada for investment purposes under the “Vibrant Gujarat” initiative, and questioned why a similar visit to the US as part of “Telangana Rising 2047” was blocked. He noted that leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Ambedkar had studied in England and gone on to become visionaries for the nation, and said his government’s aim was to bring similar foreign education and sporting opportunities to economically disadvantaged students in Telangana.
The CM alleged that PM Modi continues to act as a Gujarati rather than as the Prime Minister of India, claiming this reflected fears that Telangana’s growth could pose competition to Gujarat’s development. He said this was not a personal insult to him, but a grave injustice to the four crore people of Telangana, describing the Centre’s actions as discriminatory and contrary to the spirit of federalism, and calling for it to be condemned beyond party politics.
He said the party’s MPs would raise this issue in Parliament, stating, “They may block my visit, but they cannot stop me from reaching my goal.” He also announced that the “Telangana Global Summit 2026” would be held on December 8 and 9 under the aegis of Invest Telangana.
