Moments later, one of her friends joins her in the classroom, and the two are seen greeting each other and conversing normally, giving no indication of the tragedy that was to unfold within the hour.
Shortly after, the children step out for a dance activity, during which Amaira is seen participating enthusiastically alongside her classmates, dancing, laughing, and appearing lively. Nothing in these early visuals suggests the magnitude of what was about to happen. After the activity concludes, the children return to the classroom, where the atmosphere initially remains calm. Several students are seen playing with stationery items, passing tape and other learning materials between one another, with an object resembling scissors also visible in the hands of some children — though nothing in the scene suggests tension at this stage. It is from this point, however, that the central mystery of the case begins to unfold.
Some students are seen taking out a digital writing slate, an item that, according to Amaira’s family, was not permitted inside the classroom. The slate is brought out in full view of the teacher, and several children begin writing something on it. What exactly was written remains known only to those present in the classroom that day — police have not disclosed its contents publicly at any point. What the footage does show clearly is that the slate is shown to Amaira repeatedly, again and again. At that precise moment, something shifts — not in the classroom, but within Amaira herself. The child who had appeared entirely at ease until then changes abruptly. Her body language transforms completely; her focus on the class fades, and she appears visibly uncomfortable. The cheerful, dancing child from moments earlier is no longer visible — in her place is a child who appears tense, confused, and emotionally disturbed. The children around her, meanwhile, continue playing with the digital slate, their movements suggesting they are repeatedly showing it to Amaira specifically.
The CCTV footage does not reveal what was written on the slate, nor does it capture what the children said to one another, since the footage carries no audio. According to Amaira’s family, the alleged harassment in the classroom continued from this point. Amaira approaches teacher Punita Sharma once again, attempting to explain something further. This time, her body language appears even more distressing — she is seen joining her hands together, as though pleading, seemingly saying, “Madam… please listen to me…” She appears to be trying to communicate something she could not say in front of everyone else. Whether this interpretation is accurate is something investigators will need to determine, but the CCTV footage clearly shows Amaira returning to the teacher again and again, seeking help each time.
Child psychologists note that in such situations, when a child repeatedly approaches a trusted adult while appearing visibly distressed, that moment must be treated with the utmost sensitivity. It is the responsibility of every school to take the child aside from other students, speak with her individually, understand what has happened, bring the classroom situation under control, and if necessary, involve a school counselor or senior staff member. According to Amaira’s parents, none of this occurred. The school management has not accepted these allegations so far, and the police investigation into the matter continues.

She appears increasingly isolated, increasingly withdrawn.
The footage then captures another crucial moment in the case: the teacher is seen pointing toward Amaira while speaking firmly. Once again, since the footage has no audio, what was said at that moment is unknown. But the visuals suggest Amaira appears helpless, repeatedly attempting to explain herself, each time seemingly failing to get her point across. The minutes that follow are among the most distressing in the entire footage — and what happens next changes the entire direction of the case. Within a few minutes, Amaira’s body language changes completely, and the events that follow remain the biggest unanswered question in this investigation to date.
A few minutes later, the footage captures what may be the most disturbing visuals in the entire case. A student seated on the bench in front of Amaira rises from his seat once again and points toward her — some discussion is clearly taking place, though again without audio. Shortly after, the class teacher walks over to a group of students and speaks with them, appearing in the footage to gesture toward Amaira as well. It is at this point that the visuals most deeply disturbed Amaira’s parents, as well as many who have viewed the footage since: Amaira suddenly covers her mouth with both hands. Moments later, she holds her head in her hands, her face showing clear signs of shock. For a nine-year-old child to react this way in a classroom is far from typical. Her body language changes entirely, suggesting that something said to her caused severe fear and psychological distress. What exactly was said, and by whom, remains unknown, since the footage has no audio, and police have not disclosed the details of the conversation that took place at that time.
According to Amaira’s parents, this was the most critical moment in the entire case. They allege that whatever happened at that point is what caused their daughter severe fear. Despite this attempt, Amaira does not appear to calm down — instead, she appears increasingly tense. She slowly walks back toward her seat but does not sit down, remaining standing for several moments, appearing deep in thought. Examining this sequence frame by frame naturally raises a question: was she considering whether to approach the teacher one more time? Because that is exactly what happens next. For the final time, Amaira walks up to her class teacher once more — a final attempt, a final appeal, a final effort to make herself heard. Once again, the footage carries no audio, so what was said between them is unknown. But the visuals suggest the teacher’s reaction was firm. According to Amaira’s parents, their daughter appears to be in a state of severe fear and anxiety at this point. This remains their allegation, and the investigation into this aspect continues.
What follows changes everything. While the conversation in the classroom is still ongoing, Amaira suddenly turns around and walks out of the classroom — not slowly, and not in an ordinary manner. She steps into the corridor at speed, and within seconds, she begins running. What the CCTV footage shows from this point is a nine-year-old child running alone through the school building, visibly frightened. No student is seen following her. No teacher is seen running after her. No staff member is seen attempting to stop her. According to the CCTV footage released by her family, Amaira eventually reaches the fourth floor of the school building. Her family alleges that no floor attendant intervened, and that there was no response from staff at any point. The tragedy occurred within minutes of this point.
The CCTV story ends here — but the actual investigation begins from this point. The case is not limited to the question of what happened on the fourth floor. What exactly happened in that classroom? Why did the nine-year-old repeatedly approach her teacher? Why did she appear increasingly distressed with each passing minute? What was actually written on the digital slate? What was discussed in that classroom? And most importantly, was there an opportunity to prevent this tragedy?
Amaira’s parents’ fight for justice did not end with the day they lost their daughter — it began that very day. Her mother, Shivani, has said she has no confidence in the ongoing investigation, alleging that despite meeting police repeatedly and asking numerous questions, the most critical answers remain elusive. According to Shivani, three investigating officers have already changed hands in this case. She alleges that despite countless phone calls and meetings with police, the relevant legal provisions applicable to this case have still not been invoked. Shivani has made a further serious allegation, expressing suspicion that an attempt is being made to protect certain individuals in this case, specifically raising questions about the role of school principal Indu Dubey. These remain allegations made by Amaira’s mother; the school management and concerned authorities have not publicly accepted them, and the investigation continues.
Shivani has also raised another critical question: if a nine-year-old child was able to run through the entire school building and reach the fourth floor unimpeded, why did no one notice her along the way? In her words, the school’s basic supervision system failed that day. Had CCTV monitoring functioned properly, and had adequate supervision been in place, she believes her daughter would never have reached the fourth floor. She goes on to make one of the most heart-wrenching statements in the entire case: every day, children come home from school and share what happened during their day — if someone hurt them, they tell their parents, they cry, they complain. But Amaira never got that opportunity, her mother says. Had Amaira returned home that day, she believes, this tragedy would never have occurred.
Shivani also says the newly released CCTV footage strengthens their case, noting that in the footage, Amaira can be seen repeatedly seeking help, trying to make herself heard, and trying to explain her side of the story. According to her mother, Amaira appeared trapped, humiliated, and afraid. It bears repeating that these remain allegations made by Amaira’s family, and the final investigation in this case has not yet concluded.
Amaira’s father, Vijay, has also spoken out publicly, alleging interference by social media influencers in the investigation. He has stated firmly that their fight will not stop until justice is delivered for their daughter. Whether these allegations are true is a matter that investigating agencies and the courts will ultimately decide. But eight months on, the biggest questions in this case remain unanswered: What exactly was written on the digital slate? What truly happened in that classroom? What did Amaira tell her teacher, and what was she told in return? Why did her body language change so completely within minutes? Why did she keep returning to her teacher again and again? And most crucially — could this tragedy have been prevented?
Because watching the CCTV footage from start to finish, this story does not begin with a child running toward the fourth floor. It begins with a nine-year-old walking into school that morning, smiling, just as she did every other day. Somewhere within the following hour, something changed. What changed remains the biggest mystery in this case to date. The police investigation continues, and it will ultimately be for the courts to determine where legal responsibility lies. But whatever the final judgment, this incident has placed some difficult questions before every school in the country.
Are anti-bullying systems in schools genuinely functioning effectively? Are teachers trained to recognize when a child is in psychological distress? Does a child safety protocol come into effect immediately when a child repeatedly seeks help? Are our schools truly prepared to ensure that a frightened child is never left alone in an emergency? Because sometimes, the loudest appeal for help is not spoken in words — it is visible only in a child’s body language. The question the entire country is now asking about this case is a simple one: did anyone truly recognize that Amaira was asking for help before it was too late?
