A gruesome murder case has come to light in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, causing widespread shock in the area, after a woman allegedly murdered her husband and buried his body under the bathroom floor, later having it tiled over to avoid suspicion. She reportedly went on to file a missing person complaint with police and wept before neighbours, feigning ignorance about her husband’s whereabouts.
According to police, Surendra Sharma (44), a resident of the Dahtora area under Sikandra police station limits, lived with his wife Ruby Sharma and their two daughters. The couple had been married for 16 years. On May 26, Surendra suddenly went missing, following which Ruby filed a missing complaint at Sikandra police station. For the next 45 days, she reportedly cried before neighbours daily, claiming her husband had left home and that she was heartbroken over his absence.
Police investigation revealed that the disappearance was in fact a calculated plan executed by Ruby herself. On May 26, as per her plan, she sent her two daughters to stay at the home of Surendra’s elder brother. She then prepared kheer, her husband’s favourite dessert, mixing sleeping pills into it. Once Surendra lost consciousness after eating it, she strangled him to death.
The next morning, she reportedly dug a large pit in the bathroom unnoticed and buried her husband’s body in it. To avoid raising suspicion, she then had the spot covered with concrete and fresh tiles laid over it.
The case unravelled when police visited the house for a routine verification related to an old case involving Surendra. Ruby appeared visibly nervous during the visit and hurriedly called her brother-in-law home. The deceased’s brother, who had harboured suspicions about Ruby’s behaviour, shared his doubts with police. When questioned, Ruby broke down and confessed to the crime, leading police to the spot where the body was buried.
Police, with the help of labourers, broke open the newly laid bathroom flooring and tiles, recovering Surendra’s remains. The body was sent for post-mortem examination. ACP of Haripurvat Circle, Amisha, briefed the media on the case, stating that accused Ruby Sharma has been taken into custody and that investigations are underway into the actual motive behind the murder and whether anyone else assisted her in concealing the body.
