A deadly attack has struck Karachi, Pakistan. A massive explosion was heard in the Mosamiyat Chowrangi area, immediately followed by intense gunfire. Armed military personnel swiftly cordoned off all surrounding streets, blocking anyone from entering or leaving.
Terrorists rammed a vehicle packed with explosives into the regional headquarters of the Pakistan Rangers. A fierce gun battle between security forces and the attackers broke out immediately after. The attack on this paramilitary headquarters in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar area killed four Sindh Rangers personnel. Shortly after, a second bomb explosion occurred near Meteorological Chowrangi on University Road, followed by heavy gunfire there as well. As the situation escalated, Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper reported that specialized units including the Rapid Response Force and police commandos were rushed to the scene.
Pakistani forces successfully repelled the attack on the Sindh Rangers headquarters. In the operation, security forces killed six terrorists and captured one alive. A militant group called Jamaat-ul-Ahrar — a splinter faction of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it was carried out by their suicide squad known as the “Khulafa-e-Rashideen Ishtishhadi Brigade.”
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah responded to the incident, saying he had taken note of reports of explosions and gunfire and directed officials to provide a full detailed report. He called on police to immediately reach the site, assess what happened, and take all necessary action without delay.
Terrorist attacks targeting police and security forces have increased significantly in Pakistan in recent times, with authorities stating that the Pakistani Taliban and affiliated militant groups are responsible for most of these incidents.
