A 25-year-old Indian student from Telangana has died under suspicious circumstances in London. He was found dead the morning after attending a birthday celebration in London. While his roommate claims he died by suicide, the official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
The deceased has been identified as S. Srinath Reddy, from Talamadla village in Kamareddy district, Telangana. According to his father Madhusudan Reddy, Srinath had gone to London 14 months ago for higher studies. A relative’s son based in London stated that Srinath’s body was first discovered by his roommate on Tuesday morning — though the roommate informed Srinath’s friends about the death much later than expected.
While the roommate says Srinath died by hanging, his father Madhusudan Reddy expressed anguish that the true circumstances of his son’s death remain unclear. He said Srinath had spoken with the family over the phone the night before his death, and the conversation was completely normal. He also mentioned that Srinath had attended a friend’s birthday party that night.
According to a crowdfunding page, Srinath Reddy was pursuing a Master’s degree at De Montfort University in London. He came from a modest middle-class family, and relatives had taken out an education loan and borrowed money from family members to fund his studies abroad.
His father Madhusudan Reddy is pleading with the central and state governments to help bring his son’s body back to India. Friends and donors in London have started an online fundraiser to cover the costs of repatriating Srinath’s remains and conducting his last rites.
