US Allegedly Uses Half Its Missile Interceptors In Israel Defence

A recent international report has raised concerns over the strain on United States missile defense systems amid ongoing hostilities involving Iran and Israel. According to the report, the US is believed to have expended a significant portion of its advanced missile interceptor stockpiles while assisting in the defense of Israel against Iranian attacks, sparking debate over strategic readiness and burden-sharing among allies.

Citing a report by The Washington Post, US forces reportedly played a dominant role in Israel’s air defense operations during recent escalations with Iran. The extensive deployment of high-end missile interceptors is said to have led to a considerable reduction in American defense stockpiles, raising questions within security circles about long-term sustainability and global deployment capability.

The report claims that the United States deployed more than 200 THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) interceptors to shield Israel, along with over 100 SM-3 and SM-6 interceptors launched from naval assets stationed in the eastern Mediterranean. As a result, nearly half of the US missile defense inventory is reportedly believed to have been consumed during the operations.

In contrast, Israel is reported to have used fewer than 100 Arrow interceptors and around 90 David’s Sling interceptors during the same period. Some of these systems were also utilized to counter limited-scale attacks launched by Iran-backed groups operating from Yemen and Lebanon, highlighting a disparity in operational expenditure between the two allies.

The reported depletion of US missile reserves has reportedly triggered concern among key allies such as Japan and South Korea, who rely heavily on American defense guarantees. Analysts warn that any sudden escalation involving China or North Korea could further expose gaps in US missile readiness. According to Kelly Grieco, the figures are “deeply concerning,” adding that the United States is carrying a disproportionate share of missile defense operations while Israel conserves its own stockpiles. She also noted that production rates remain significantly slower than global demand.

However, the United States Department of Defense has rejected the allegations, defending the operational balance between the two allies. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell stated that missile defense systems operate as part of an integrated multi-layered network involving advanced interceptors, fighter aircraft, and anti-drone technologies. He further emphasized that operations such as “Operation Epic Fury” demonstrated coordinated defense efforts by both the United States and Israel, with responsibilities shared across multiple platforms.
