Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia and growing concerns over energy supply security, LPG shipments destined for India continue to operate under tight maritime conditions through the strategically sensitive Strait of Hormuz.
An Indian LPG vessel named Saami has safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and reached Kandla Port in Gujarat on Sunday. Officials confirmed that the vessel was carrying approximately 20,000 tonnes of LPG and had departed from the Ras Laffan terminal in Qatar. The ship successfully transited the strait on May 13 before reaching Indian waters.
In another development, LPG carrier Sunshine also crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. The vessel, carrying 46,427 tonnes of LPG, is expected to arrive at New Mangalore Port by Monday, according to shipping authorities. Both vessels are carrying cooking gas cargoes reportedly linked to Indian Oil Corporation.
Officials stated that despite heightened tensions in the region, maritime movement through the strait has continued with caution. So far, 13 Indian vessels have successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz since the onset of recent restrictions. However, 12 additional ships are currently stranded in the Gulf due to prevailing security concerns and operational challenges.
