The POCSO case registered against Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay, has triggered a major political and public controversy in Telangana. The case has drawn attention not only from political leaders but also from film industry personalities and social media influencers, intensifying the debate surrounding the allegations.
Prominent celebrities, including Rashmi Gautam, Poonam Kaur, and Chinmayi Sripaada, have publicly reacted to the issue. Their statements on social media have further amplified discussions on women’s safety, accountability, and the role of influential individuals in society.
Anchor Rashmi Gautam stated that while she supports the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, her support is “for the nation, not for individuals accused of sexual offenses.” She urged people to focus on ensuring justice for victims rather than engaging in online trolling, and emphasized solidarity with survivors of abuse while calling for accountability irrespective of political affiliations.
Singer Chinmayi Sripaada compared the situation to global cases involving powerful individuals accused of sexual misconduct, stating that similar patterns exist in India as well. Actress Poonam Kaur also questioned the responsibility of political families, expressing concern over repeated allegations involving influential figures and stressing the need for greater accountability in public life.
The case was registered at Pet Basheerabad Police Station in Hyderabad based on a complaint filed by the family of a 17-year-old girl, alleging sexual assault under the POCSO Act. However, Bhagirath has denied the allegations and filed a counter-complaint with Karimnagar police, accusing the girl’s family of honey-trapping and blackmailing him for ₹5 crore. Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has reviewed the case and directed police authorities to expedite the investigation by forming special teams, stressing that the probe must be conducted in a fair and impartial manner without delay.
