A significant political development has emerged in Tamil Nadu, with M. K. Stalin, the leader of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), appearing headed for a major setback in the Kolathur constituency. According to the latest figures available on the Election Commission website, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate V.S. Babu is leading by over 8,000 votes, indicating a possible upset against the sitting Chief Minister.

The development has sparked intense discussion in political circles and on social media, with many focusing on the background of V.S. Babu, who is poised to defeat a high-profile incumbent. His lead is being viewed as a significant blow to the DMK, which is currently in power in the state.

Babu is not new to electoral politics. He was previously associated with the DMK and had won as an MLA from the Purasawalkam constituency in 2006, registering a decisive victory with a margin of over 90,000 votes against a candidate from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). He remained with the DMK until 2026 before switching political allegiance.

Ahead of the current elections, Babu joined TVK on February 7 and was fielded from Kolathur by party chief Vijay, who placed considerable trust in him. In what is being described as a stunning political upset, Babu is set to defeat M.K. Stalin. As per his 2026 election affidavit, he has declared assets worth ₹3.7 crore.
