Security arrangements for the US President are among the most confidential in the world, with critical details such as the number of personnel kept strictly classified. The responsibility of protecting the President and his family lies with the Presidential Protective Division (PPD) of the United States Secret Service, an elite unit comprising highly trained agents tasked exclusively with ensuring the President’s safety.
The scale of operations is extensive, with the US government allocating approximately $3.2 billion annually—around ₹26,500 crore—for presidential security. The Secret Service employs about 8,300 personnel, of whom nearly 3,600 are directly involved in protection duties. This includes thousands of special agents supported by uniformed officers who maintain constant vigilance at all times.
In addition to human resources, the President’s security apparatus incorporates advanced technologies and specialized units. These include counter-sniper teams, chemical threat detection experts, and specially trained Belgian Malinois dogs.
