As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, the political landscape in the state is witnessing heightened activity, with particular focus on Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay. However, his recent decision to cancel a series of scheduled campaign rallies has become a major point of discussion in political circles.
According to the election timetable, the Tamil Nadu Assembly poll notification was issued on March 15, with voting scheduled for April 23. While major political parties have intensified their campaigning efforts across constituencies, Vijay has reportedly cancelled public meetings planned in key regions including Villivakkam, Tiruchirappalli, Puducherry, T. Nagar, and Cuddalore. Several other pre-planned events have also been put on hold.
Although there has been no official clarification from the party, sources indicate that multiple factors may have contributed to the cancellations. These include alleged administrative hurdles in securing permissions for rallies, limitations imposed on campaign arrangements, and concerns over security preparedness. The issue of crowd management has also gained significance, especially following a previous stampede incident in Karur during a large gathering.
In addition, logistical challenges related to campaign mobility and transport arrangements are also being cited as possible reasons. The developments have reportedly caused concern among TVK candidates, who heavily rely on Vijay’s mass appeal for electoral support. With rival parties actively intensifying their ground campaigns, the absence of the party chief from key constituencies has raised questions over its potential impact on TVK’s electoral prospects.
