Telangana MLC Kavitha has received significant relief in the ongoing Delhi liquor policy case, as the Rouse Avenue Court dismissed all charges against her. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed the case, which also involved her auditor Buchi Babu and several other individuals. The court granted Kavitha a full clean chit, stating that there was no substantial evidence to support the allegations against her. The court further dismissed the charges against all the accused, criticizing the lack of proper evidence.
In addition to Kavitha, the court also cleared former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, stating that no charges could be sustained against them either. The court noted that their names had been falsely implicated in the case. This decision provides significant relief to the three leaders, who had been at the center of a prolonged legal battle over the last two years.
The liquor policy case, which has caused significant controversy, began when allegations of corruption and money laundering surfaced after the introduction of the Delhi government’s liquor policy on November 17, 2021. The policy was eventually revoked in September 2022 due to these allegations. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI accused AAP leaders of accepting bribes from liquor traders and making illegal cash transactions for liquor licenses.
Kavitha, Kejriwal, and Sisodia were arrested in connection with the case but were later released on bail. Following the court’s dismissal of the charges, their supporters expressed immense joy, and the leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to fighting for justice. This decision marks a significant turning point in a case that has been politically charged and has dominated public discourse for over two years.
