Political unrest continues in Kamareddy following Saturday’s confrontations, with authorities maintaining heightened security. BJP leaders had announced plans to visit the area, prompting police to set up multiple checkpoints across the district. Key leaders were placed under preventive house arrest to avert further disturbances. Among those detained was Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh, arrested near Pedda Shankaramapet in Medak while attempting to travel to Banswada.
Earlier, BJP state chief Ramchander Rao was also placed under house arrest at his residence in Tarnaka after trying to proceed to Kamareddy. Police later transferred him to Bollaram Police Station to prevent escalation. Security forces cited concerns over public safety and the potential for renewed unrest as reasons for these preventive measures.
The tensions stemmed from disputes following the Kamareddy municipal chairman elections, where allegations and counter-allegations arose between BJP MLA Venkata Ramana Reddy and government advisor Shabbir Ali over college and school lands, including government degree college property, Shishu Mandir, and Aurora College land. Verbal confrontations between party leaders escalated into public tension when both BJP and Congress challenged each other to open debates, raising concerns over law and order.
Meanwhile, in Banswada, a separate clash erupted in a supermarket over a religious song being played, leading to scuffles between communities. Police intervened with baton charges, and several BJP leaders and supporters attempting to join the fray were detained. Authorities have deployed significant forces in both Kamareddy and Banswada to maintain peace and prevent further incidents.
