Hyderabad: A tragic incident was reported under the Kukatpally police station limits, where a 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after jumping into Hussain Sagar, reportedly distressed over difficulties in getting married due to her mother’s condition. The deceased has been identified as Toshniwal Vijayalakshmi, a native of Kandlakoya in Medchal district, who was residing with her mother in Maitrinagar, Kukatpally.

According to police, Vijayalakshmi lost her father at a young age, while her mother Saraswati suffers from mental health issues. Vijayalakshmi had been taking full responsibility for her mother’s care while also working at a private company to support the household.

Sources said Vijayalakshmi recently received marriage proposals but insisted that her mother would continue to live with her after marriage. This reportedly led to repeated rejections, causing her severe emotional distress. On Saturday evening, she left home and did not return.

Her relative Abhishek approached the police on Sunday and filed a missing complaint. Later, a woman’s body was found floating in Hussain Sagar, and authorities confirmed it to be Vijayalakshmi. Police informed the family, who were left devastated by the loss. Further investigation is underway.
