New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget for the 2026–27 financial year in the Lok Sabha for the ninth consecutive time. During the annual Budget presentation, she is wearing a traditional Kanjeevaram saree, a choice that has drawn attention ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

Sitharaman is known for showcasing regional handloom and weaving traditions through her saree selections, reflecting India’s rich cultural heritage. This year, she has chosen a purple Kanjeevaram cotton-silk saree, continuing her practice of promoting indigenous craftsmanship during key national events.

In past years, she has highlighted different regional textiles, including an off-white Madhubani print handloom saree representing Bihar in 2024, a blue Tussar silk saree with Kantha work for the interim Budget, and a red-and-black Kosa silk saree with traditional embroidery in 2023, underscoring India’s diverse textile heritage during Budget presentations.
