Amaravati/Hyderabad, November 3: Counting of votes in the Andhra Pradesh municipal elections is under way, with results emerging one by one from several municipalities and nagar panchayats across the state.
Pulivendula: Alliance ahead
In Kadapa district’s Pulivendula, candidates of the TDP-led alliance are leading. Counting has been completed in 30 of the 40 wards. The TDP has won 25 wards, while the YSRCP and the BJP have won two each. The Jana Sena Party has won one.
Pedana: Alliance wins clear majority
In Krishna district, the alliance has captured the Pedana municipality. Of the 28 wards, the TDP won 19 and the Jana Sena won six, giving the alliance 25 wards. The YSRCP secured three.
The alliance’s chairperson candidate, Nagalinga Jyotsnarani, won by a margin of 4,380 votes over her rival.
Chirala: Counting postponed
Cyclone Murasu has disrupted counting in Chirala. Officials postponed the process, as it could not be held at the scheduled time. Counting will now take place on November 6, once weather conditions improve. Officials reportedly took the decision keeping in mind the safety of the public and election staff.
The delay has disappointed candidates, party leaders and workers awaiting the outcome. With polling already over, parties are debating who will win, and the suspense will continue for a few more days.
Vijayawada: Rain disrupts counting
Confusion marked the counting for the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. Heavy rain under the influence of Cyclone Murasu hampered the process, which was due to begin at 8 am but was delayed. Rainwater entered the counting centre set up at Andhra Loyola College, creating difficulties for the arrangements.
