Bangladesh has once again witnessed disturbing attacks on minority communities amid the approaching elections. Reports indicate a surge in violence targeting Hindus in various parts of the country. On December 31, a 50-year-old Hindu man, Khokon Das, was attacked by a group of assailants in Shariatpur district. The attackers reportedly assaulted him with blunt weapons and set him on fire while he was on his way home.

This incident marks the fourth attack on a Hindu individual in Bangladesh in recent weeks. On December 24, another Hindu youth, 29-year-old Amrit Mandal, was allegedly beaten to death by a group in the Hossain Danga area of Kalimohar Union. Earlier, on December 18, in Bhuluka Upazila of Mymensingh, 25-year-old Deep Chand Das was reportedly attacked by a Muslim colleague over a false blasphemy accusation. The attackers allegedly killed Das, hung his body from a tree, and set it on fire.

Authorities have not yet released detailed statements on the ongoing investigations. These repeated attacks on minority communities have drawn concern from local and international human rights observers, who have called for urgent measures to ensure safety and prevent further communal violence in the run-up to the elections.
