Telangana Panchayat Elections Conclude with Congress Leading

The Telangana Panchayat elections, held in three phases, concluded on Wednesday, with Congress securing a significant victory across 31 districts for 12,733 Sarpanch positions. In total, Congress won 7,010 seats, followed by BRS with 3,502, and BJP with 688. Other candidates collectively won 1,505 seats. Congress maintained its dominance, continuing to lead from the first two phases into the third, where they secured 2,286 seats, including unopposed victories. BRS claimed 1,142 seats, BJP got 242, and other candidates won 479 seats. CPI and CPM supporters won 24 and 7 seats, respectively.

The third phase of voting saw an 85.77% voter turnout, which is 0.9% lower than the previous phase. In total, 43,37,024 of the 50,56,334 eligible voters cast their ballots in the third phase. Notably, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district recorded the highest turnout at 92.56%, with men (92.79%) slightly outnumbering women (92.33%) in voter participation. Nizamabad district, however, had the lowest turnout at 76.45%.

Polling across the state was largely peaceful, except for a few areas. The election process in Nirmal district’s Muthol saw long lines of voters waiting to cast their ballots until 2:30 PM. Telangana Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, DGP Shivadhar Reddy, and State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini monitored the election proceedings through webcasting, ensuring smooth conduct during the polling.
