M. Saravanan, the veteran head of AVM Studios and iconic film producer, passed away in Chennai on December 4, 2025, at the age of 86, after a period of age-related health issues. Saravanan, son of AVM founder A.V. Meiyappan, was instrumental in shaping South Indian cinema, producing over 300 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. Under his guidance, AVM Studios delivered major Telugu hits such as Aa Okkati Adakku, Samsaram Oka Chadarangam, and Leader, alongside Tamil blockbusters like Yajaman, Minnale, Sivaji: The Boss, Ayan, and Minnara Kanavu. His vision and leadership helped the studio retain its prestigious legacy for nearly five decades.
Having grown up in the studio environment, Saravanan joined production work early and assumed full control of AVM Studios following his father’s death in 1979. Renowned for mentoring new talent and encouraging innovative storytelling, he ensured AVM remained relevant despite evolving audience tastes. His contributions also extended to Telugu cinema, with films such as Bhakta Prahlada, Mooga Nomu, and Aa Okkati Adakku achieving both critical and commercial success, cementing AVM’s reputation across regional markets.
Despite his stature in the industry, Saravanan was admired for his simplicity and discipline, often seen in his signature white attire. Fans, film personalities, and industry colleagues have gathered at AVM Studios in Chennai to pay their respects. His passing marks the end of an era for South Indian cinema, but his legacy as a pioneering producer and visionary leader continues to inspire the film fraternity.
