The Telangana local body elections continue to generate strong activity across districts, with the first phase of nomination filing concluding on Saturday. Several villages opted for unanimous selection of sarpanch candidates, even as a few others witnessed auctions for the post.
In Nalgonda district, Chinna Adisherlapalli village under Kondamallepalli mandal recorded a unanimous election. Venkataiah Goud was chosen as sarpanch without opposition after he assured villagers that he would contribute Rs 51.30 lakh from his personal funds toward village development. The village elders have reportedly decided to spend the amount on addressing key civic issues. Although the village was slated to go to polls in the third phase, residents favored a peaceful process and supported a consensus candidate.
A similar outcome was seen in Veldi village of Jangaon district, where Singireddy Sunitha Srinivas Reddy was unanimously elected as sarpanch. With only one nomination submitted, she was officially declared elected. She thanked villagers, especially the youth and women, for extending support and ensuring a smooth unanimous selection.
Residents of both villages have welcomed the consensus-driven results, saying unanimous elections prevent conflicts and allow leadership to focus immediately on development and welfare activities.
