Riding high on its triumph in the Jubilee Hills by-election, the Congress party is preparing to contest upcoming local body elections. As part of the strategy, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy traveled to Delhi to meet the party leadership. He was accompanied by PCC Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud and Jubilee Hills bypoll winner and Congress candidate Naveen Yadav. The trio is scheduled to first meet AICC Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, with Naveen Yadav set for a separate discussion with Kharge.
During the visit, CM Revanth Reddy is expected to brief the high command on the bypoll victory, with potential discussions on cabinet expansion on the agenda. Currently, two ministerial berths remain vacant in the state cabinet, and Revanth Reddy is reportedly taking steps to fill these positions. The Jubilee Hills win is seen as a favorable development, potentially paving the way for a cabinet reshuffle. Party insiders indicate that the Chief Minister may award ministerial posts to close aides, with the B.C. community representation being a key consideration.
Given that Naveen Yadav is the sole winner from the city and belongs to the B.C. community, speculation is rife that he could be appointed as a minister. The Congress, energized by the bypoll victory, is eager to swiftly conduct local body elections, leveraging the B.C. reservation issue to consolidate its prospects. The party aims to turn current political conditions to its advantage, with CM Revanth Reddy actively pushing for timely elections to strengthen Congress’s urban foothold.
