US President Donald Trump has said that trade negotiations between India and the United States are moving forward positively, reaffirming his strong friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We talk often. He listened to me and has reduced oil purchases from Russia. Prime Minister Modi is a great person. He invited me to his country, and I will definitely visit next year,” Trump said, though he did not reveal specific details about the timing of his visit. He added that both nations are working toward finalizing the first phase of a bilateral trade agreement.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump holds deep respect for Prime Minister Modi and that the two leaders maintain regular communication. She noted that discussions between the Indian trade delegation and US officials have been intense and constructive. Leavitt added that Trump remains highly positive about India and is focused on strengthening diplomatic and strategic ties between the two countries.
So far, India and the United States have conducted five rounds of negotiations as part of their ongoing trade talks. Both sides are aiming to conclude the first phase of the trade deal by November 2025, marking a key milestone in the deepening economic partnership between the two nations.
